Ragga Dee Addresses Copyright Dispute With Mikie Wine

Veteran singer Ragga Dee has addressed whether he has resolved his copyright dispute with Mickey Wine, who re-recorded one of his songs without obtaining his permission.

Ragga Dee maintained that redoing another artist’s intellectual property without prior authorization is unacceptable.

He emphasized that anyone wishing to remake or reproduce another musician’s work must first obtain written consent, not merely a verbal agreement.

According to the singer, such agreements are usually handled privately between the parties involved and are rarely publicized through television, radio, or social media.

He revealed that he has previously granted artists, including Sheebah Karungi, written permission to remake his songs, stressing that every authorization was documented in writing.

Veteran journalist Maurice Mugisha shares secrets to a lasting marriage
It’s not done that way. When you’re going to redo someone’s song, you have to get written consent. It’s not usually publicized on TV, radio, or social media. It’s an agreement between two people, usually done in the studio.

I have not met him because I have not given him consent. I have people I gave consent to redo my songs, like Sheebah, and it’s always written consent, not verbal.

Despite the disagreement, Ragga Dee urged musicians to embrace unity, support one another, and collaborate for the continued growth and development of Uganda’s music industry.
